The transmission is a gearbox that is full of transmission fluid that does help to keep the transmission lubricated and keeps it moving smoothly. The transmission is a sealed system that is pressurized and the transmission fluid does need to be the right volume and the right texture for the transmission to run smoothly and to run normally. When the transmission fluid gets too low, when it gets too dirty, or when it changes in texture you do need to have it changed out so that you can be sure it is going to do the job that it does need to do. When to Service Your Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid is not something like oil in the engine that needs to be changed very often. You do need to make sure that you are changing the fluid based on the service interval that the maker of the car suggests. If you are driving a great deal you do need to make sure you are paying attention to how many miles you are putting on the car and how long it has been since you changed the fluid last. You should be changing the transmission fluid on the normal service schedule like 5,000 miles, 10,000 miles and so on as recommended by your car maker. In some cases, such as leaks or transmission issues, you do need to have your car to the mechanic to make sure that the issues are taken care of. When you do take the time to keep the transmission fluid clean and at the right level, your car is going to run better and run longer.
